User training for Integrated Warning and Alarm System (Project IKAS) was organized and delivered by the project group from BİLGEM Information Technologies Institute (BTE) between 18-20 January of 2016 in Antalya. It was held within the scope of the agreement signed in 2012 between TÜBİTAK BİLGEM and AFAD (Prime Ministry Disaster & Emergency Management Authority).
With the project, disaster and emergency management system was put into practice, and the following systems, which aim at transmitting air attack threats and CBRN threats to the public by using sirens, announcements and verbal warnings, were established:
- Information Retrieving and Spreading System
- Warning and Alarm System
- Messaged Warning System
The trainings brought together many names including AFAD Presidency, General Directorate of Meteorology, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, General Directorate of Forestry, Turkish Atomic Energy Authority, Turkish Radio and Television Association TV and Radio.
The program commenced with inauguration speeches of representatives from AFAD and TÜBİTAK BİLGEM. This was followed by the training provided for system users. Participants had also exchange of ideas and experiences on how to apply this to the whole Turkey. Moreover, AFAD stated that the Integrated Warning and Alarm System (IKAS) will be used all around the country in the closest time possible.
